A disease caused by a protozoan parasite called toxoplasma gondii.  Seldom a threat to persons with normal immune systems, Toxoplasmosis can be a serious problem for persons with immune system problems frequently   causing infections in the brain.  As it can be transmitted to persons with AIDS by cats, it is advised that one should avoid strange cats, avoid changing their cat's litterbox without gloves, and avoid handling waste material from their cats.  The parasite is less likely to occur in pets which are not fed raw meet or tablescraps.
